Gamma-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB) is a colorless, odorless chemical and has become one of the most dangerous illicit drugs of abuse today. It is known as one of the “date rape” drugs and there is an increasing trend of GHB being used as a recreational drug.
Date Rape drug victims may end up driving a car and crashing or being arrested for drunk driving. Because GHB typically causes amnesia, victims have little or no recall of events including the drugging, a sexual assault and subsequent driving. Due to lack of consistent education about GHB, law enforcement agencies have sometimes refused to believe the victim allegations and have prosecuted them for drunk driving without investigating the allegations of being drugged and raped.
Now there is a quick and simple home test for GHB in urine samples. It is inexpensive, requires no instrumentation and should be a game-changer for sexual assaults, drugged driving, drugging for robbery, overdose, death and drug abuse testing programs.
GHB has been a difficult drug to catch in testing due to rapid dissipation from blood and urine in the human body. This why it is so important for anyone who thinks they may have been drugged to get to a hospital or police station and be adamant about wanting to provide a urine sample immediately. We recommend collecting and/or testing the urine sample within 12hours of the incident.
If you have a positive GHB test you can wait 30 days from the date of the incident to have a hair sample collected to allow the drug to migrate in to the hair cortex. Hair testing can detect up to 37 different date rape drugs.
Drugs change the way our minds and bodies perform when they are introduced to your body (often by swallowing, inhaling, or injecting them), Drugs find their way into your bloodstream and are transported throughout your body and your brain. In the brain, drugs may intensify / dull your senses, alter your sense of alertness, comprise your ability to make a rational decision and sometimes decrease physical pain. Some drugs severely impair a person’s ability to make healthy choices and decisions. Date Rape drugs are commonly used or secretly given to an unknowing suspect with the intent to alter a person’s perspective. Most commonly used in bars and night clubs, you may ingest a date rape drug unknowingly that effects your memory and ability to say no.
Dynamic Testing Solutions offers hair testing to detect up to 37 commonly used date rape drugs. Hair samples need to be collected at least 30 days after the known incident to allow any substance that may have been consumed to grow in to the hair shaft. This sample is collected in the same manner as a Hair Follicle Drug test.
